Ypsos House
Nafplio, Greece
2025
Situated on the historic cliffs of Nafplio beneath the Palamidi Fortress, Ypsos House reimagines the abandoned Xenia Hotel as a contemporary art-focused retreat. Rooted in the concept of Extension of Surroundings, the design draws from the site’s layered past, merging fortress stone, and the local creative spirit to offer a space where artists and travelers coexist, create, and reflect. The architecture of Ypsos House responds through fusion rather than contrast—embedding local stone, archways, and layered massing into the hotel’s form. The design carves opportunities for contemporary Greek artists, integrating exhibition spaces, studios, and public installations that honor heritage while encouraging ongoing creative expression.
